Here are some of the benefits of reading to your little ones:
- Promoting language skills, vocabulary, and memory
- Helps develop a longer attention span
- Strengthens family relationships
- Helps develop appreciation for writing
The best books will grow with your child. For example, you might buy your 3 year old a picture book you read to him. At 6, he's reciting the words to you, and by 8 he's reading it alone. For an independent reader, select titles that will challenge him without causing too much frustration.
Make it a fun day and go shop for books! Another great idea is to borrow a book from your local library or visit a thrift store. Many of the books there are no more than a dollar each!
Give your child a gift that will last a lifetime-Reading! Now that is priceless!
