~So that's why you're like that!

Ever wonder what your birth order may have to do with your personality? I stumbled upon SixWise.com and according to author of "The Pecking Order", Dalton Conley, birth order may not have anything to do with our personality. What does matter, Conley states, is family roles, financial difficulties, death of a parent, etc. However, many people do believe that birth order may have plenty to do with personality.

Just for the heck of it, read along and see if maybe your personality fits according to your order of birth.

First Born:

  • Goal setters

  • Perfectionists, sometimes worriers

  • Responsible

  • Detail oriented

  • Follow rules while trying to please everyone they can

Famous first borns: George W. Bush, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Cosby, Jackie Onassis

Only Child:

  • Like first borns, but exaggerated

  • Extremely responsible

  • Like to do everything perfectly

  • Often get along with people older than themselves

Famous only children: Frank Sinatra, Robert DeNiro, Elton John, Robin Williams

Middle Child:

  • Most experts agree that middle child has it the toughest

  • Constantly trying to outdo their siblings

  • Five times more likely to be held back a grade

  • Tend to rebel

  • Flexible

  • Diplomatic peacemakers

  • Generous

  • Outgoing & social

Famous middle children: David Letterman, Donald Trump

Last Born (Youngest Child)

  • Because they tend to be babied more, they feel like they do no wrong

  • Risk takers

  • Love attention

  • Creative "idea" people

  • Good sense of humor

  • Can be manipulative, persuasive, persistent

  • Wish to stay young forever, because of this, last borns have greater risk of psychiatric disorders & substance abuse problems

Famous Last Borns: Katie Couric, Goldie Hawn, Jim Carey, Jay Leno, Steve Martin

Exceptions to the Rule:

Does your personality not come close to the descriptions for your birth order? It's worth noting that there are several caveats that can seriously skew these birth order "rules."

If there are a number of years between siblings, the birth order chain will start over. For example, if six years go by between the first and second child, the second child may take on personality traits of a first-born.

The birth order within genders can also start the chain over. For instance, if the first child is a girl and the second a boy, the boy may take on some first-born traits since he is the first-born male.

Deaths of siblings, adoptions, step-siblings, multiple births and divorce, in which siblings live separately, can also influence birth order traits.

Let me know if you think this is pretty accurate, I am so curious!!

I have to say I sort of agree, the traits listed are me both the middle child and some of the older child as well. For my kids some is true some is the complete opposite. How did you match up?

Yeah, I agree that some of the first born traits match some of my personality, and the same with my kids. Not everything, though...pretty close!
