I don't even have to say it, but one word may describe what's on everyone's mind is: economy. Yes, I said it! With the way that things are at the moment I think that everyone is trying to save money any way that can. I know that my family and I are. I actually clipped coupons the other day, and never did I ever think that I would clip coupons! Not that I never wanted to, but rather out of laziness. Now, I am more than happy to clip away! I hope that some of you got to watch the Oprah show the other day. The show had a few families on there and they shared what they did as a family to save money. Tips on cooking frugally and even cutting back on things that they may once thought of as a necessity. There was woman on there that started unplugging all the appliances in her home when they were not in use. Anything from the microwave to the telephone charger. Even the television! If it plugged in, it would be unplugged if not in use. She said that a normal electric bill would be about $200, or so. When she started unplugging everything, the bill was about $80, and $60 was the all time best. I thought that was pretty impressive and my mother and I are trying that for the month. I will definately keep you posted on any of the changes. If there are any other ideas that you guys have out there, then share them! Everyone could use a little help at this difficult time! Hope all is well and things WILL get better.

good idea...I've beeen trying to unplug certain things when not in use (toaster, hair dryer) but I'll have to look around and find more stuff..... I did see some of that Oprah episode about the family that saved 71% on their grocery bill.... hopefully it will get better, our next President, no matter who it is, has his work cut out for him and will need to do his very best to get America back on the right track. And in my opinion, Barack Obama is the man who will do whatever he can to get the middle class up and running again..... good luck and keep clipping!

Yes that was a good show. I was glad to sit and watch it with you. I think one of the best ways to save money is to have a certain amount "automatically" taken from your checking account and placed in a money market account or Roth IRA.
Even if you have the "impulse" to spend, take the money that you would have spent and place it in your savings account. For example, you are out driving around town. You get the impulse to buy a value meal at a fast food joint. Instead of buying that value meal for $6 put it in your savings account.
The Oprah show talked about a woman that said to herself that everytime a $5 bill would hit her wallet, she was going to put it into a savings account. After two years she saved $12,000. WOW, what a great strategy.
